ARTWORK: True Grit finished fan art

After seeing an advanced screening for True Grit I worked up a fan art of main characters Rooster Cogburn and Mattie Ross, but never got around to finishing the colors til this week...

So, here's the finished piece...

By Crom!

Some Conan art I dug up for reference on... something.

I used to love the Conan magazines in the early 80's... I could never get into the Conan comics of the time, but I do remember they always had the weird formula of starting each issue with the climax from the previous issue. I did dig the King Conan comics though.

I'm looking forward to the new movie too.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: cool flash comic

Here's an amazingly cool new flash comic preview directed by French animator Balak. He really gets the potential for this type of new breed comic, that isn't motion based (and painful), but flash enhanced (and joyous). So sequential reading is enhanced by slight tweaks to pacing and format, heightening the experience to create something more than just a traditional comic, but at the same time, remains true as a comic and not some lame hybrid/cheap animation...

Plus the art (by Barth) and story are spot on too!

ARTWORK: Femforce sketch cards

And yet more sketch cards I did recently...
I did 10 cards to be used for dealer exclusives on the just released FEMFORCE set by
The cards were all done as 2 card puzzles, and featured many of the wide range of characters...

I also have a few blank artist exclusive cards up for grabs from the set for $35 each.

ARTWORK: Sheena sketch cards

Here's a sample card from the small run of cards I'm doing for the upcoming 5finity, Sheena (queen of the jungle), sketch card series. The series was very limited and from what I understand pre-sold out...
I'll have a couple cards up for grabs once the set comes out.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: publishing stuff

A couple cool links from TheComicsBeat...

First, a link to a DIY approach to digital publishing that may be a nifty idea - HERE

With an interesting alternate idea floated in the comments from digital trailblazer DJ Coffman.

As I'm grappling with a clear path forward digitally, both for my work, and my publishing output. It's clear there are any number of directions one could go, and that ultimately there should be an option, or standard, for doing it on one's own, but I also think there's a big potential in the collective space... or digital publishers. As with anything, there needs to be focal points for choosing content on the user side... something to replace the comic shops, the newsstands, etc.

Then second, we have a lengthy conversation with Joe Casey, a comic writer synonymous with creator driven work, and quite the success story - HERE

I've always been a fan of Joe's work. And while nothing of his has ever been a pure favorite, his work is interesting and exciting. And I'm very much looking forward to his and Mike Huddleston's BUTCHER BAKER (from Image).
