Super Real Special CONTEST

Contest time!

With issue 3 out in shops now, and things ramping up for our next installment, the first Super Real Special, SUPER REAL VS THE COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY, I thought it was time to do another contest.

This time I'm giving away a complete set of Super Real issue 3 covers, the regular cover, and both the variants, all 3 covers for the book to the lucky winner. I'll also get a copy of the Felipe Smith incentive variant cover to the runner up!

So what's the contest you ask?

Take a look at the cover to the special, and then leave comments with your guesses to the following...

How many comic book icons are represented in the cover artwork?
Please name them all.
(Click on the pic to see a larger image)

Some are obvious (okay most of them), but there might be one or two that aren't.
Again, the theme of the book is that our Super Real cast members have to face off against challengers who resemble various comic book genre icons. The cover however, is superhero-centric...

Anyone?

The first complete correct answer is the winner, and if anyone gets a partial, the highest guess there is the runner up.
Also, when leaving your guesses, please make sure I have a way to contact the winner/s!!!
Good luck!

jason

  3. Oh, and, sorry, but please one guess per person. :)

  4. Batman
    Superman
    Spider-Man
    Wolverine
Now I'm torn between Captain America and Bullseye, though Cap is the icon, so...
And I'm wondering if the lasso/whip represents Wonder Woman or Catwoman.
And this is reaching, but could the fire represent the Human Torch?

  5. Depends on what you consider representation.

    I say seven:
    Batman
    Superman
    Spidey
    Wolverine
    Ghost Rider (Wolvie's flaming skull)
    Wonder Woman (lasso)
    Captain America (shield)

For a minute, I also thought Spidey's busted eye thing was a reflection of the White Queen's midriff.

  6. Okay guys, I guess I envisioned the correct guess having the both correct NUMBER and correct ICONS, too many, too few, no good.

Since that seemed less than perfectly clear, I'll allow a second guess.

Keeping in mind, by those rules, we don't have a winner.

Pick a number, and commit to it and the icons. :)

  8. Batman
    Spiderman
    Superman
    Captain America
    Wolverine
Wonder Woman (just saying that cause everyone else is, but the black color is throwing me off, if it's a whip, then I'd say Catwoman.. But we're talking icons as one person said so.. Wondie).

  10. Okay everyone, we've got a winner (and a lot of very close ones)!

There are indeed 6 (with Wonder Woman's Lasso throwing folks off...):

    Superman
    Spiderman
    Batman
    Wolverine
    Captain America (shield)
    Wonder Woman (lasso)

I tried to keep the colors/tones different (and emblems obscured etc), so on the shield and lasso ended up quite different, and that threw people.
The flaming Wolverine adamantium skull threw some folks off a bit (it wasn’t intended to be Johnny Storm’s handywork) too (I thought we’d get some Ghost Riders thrown in).

Soooo, the winner is Joel Danford!
With the runner up being Brant Fowler (as his was the first to get all 6 mentioned (with some extras).

If you guys could email me your addresses to jason@superrealgraphics.com that would be great!

Thanks everyone for playing along, it was fun. I knew it would be easy, with the exception of the lasso being black, so I wasn’t sure if I’d have to give clues, but everyone jumped all over it right away and we had a lot of close calls.

Stay tuned for some more contests, and keep those comments coming! I always appreciate hearing your thoughts on the book and the blog!

    Thanks,
    jason
