After waiting for the wife and my schedule to sync up and catch it together, I've finally seen Frank Miller's 300.
What a treat.
What a fabulous work of art put to film.
So good...
Aside from being a visual and cinematic treat, with it’s visceral imagery, and choreographed idealized forms, aside from the stirring sounds and the thundering bellows, 300’s assault isn’t just on the senses. Sure, director Zack Snyder puts Frank Miller’s source material to impeccable use, but it’s hard not to be moved by the story of these fabled 300 Spartan’s and what they stood for.
In today’s world we’re so detached from the things we take for granted, and the privileges bestowed, and even our entertainment can be so mindless, it’s nice to have something that takes you and challenges you to think beyond your world.
As much as 300 is an ultimate balls-out testosterone laden us-versus-them tale, it’s also one of fighting for what you believe in, and standing for what’s right. A testament to those who’ve come before and given countless lives in the name of what we live.
Sure, it’s still just a big Hollywood spectacle, but damn, what a good one!
Loved it!
With Snyder turning in the incredible remake of Dawn of the Dead, and now 300, he's quite a talent to watch, and hopefully he can work his magic on the long languished Hollywood version of THE WATCHMEN!

Yeah, dude!! I freaking loved this movie!! It actually has quite a bit added from the comic version. A lot of the weirder things, like the giant dude they fight or the strange looking guy with blade arms were not in the comic.
Ha ha...
was just moments ago reading the article in EW on the movie (now that I've seen it) and they had a whole section on the stuff they added...
I had a hard time believing some of this stuff wasn't in the book...
having not read it, I'd guess they may have actually improved on it (especially the storyline of the Queen/wife).
Yeah, that was my reaction. I thought for sure that craziness was in the books. Still, it probably came from Miller. Interesting to see when the DVD comes out.
From I can tell, the movie is an improvement on the graphic novel. I even got that impression from a review of it that was done well before the movie went into production and from I was able to skim through, their criticisms seemed valid. Kinda confused by some of the criticisms at first, because I hadn't skimmed the GN yet and just assumed that it was exactly like the movie.
