FAN ART: Daenerys Targaryen

Finally got around to doing a Daenerys Stormborn (Game of Thrones style) fan art. Here she is in my take of the magical (and fiery) dragon birth scene.
Here's a look at the process on this, from the initial rough...
To the second take, where I decided to turn her from the profile to a more straight on shot (while keeping pretty much the same pose).
I'll have prints for SDCC!

FAN ART: GAME OF THRONES season one

Earlier this year I'd been working on a massive fan art for the first season of HBO's incredible Song of Ice and Fire adaptation, GAME OF THRONES. We're huge fans of the show, and I wanted to do something similar to my Lost cast fan art for it, so I worked up 14 plus characters to position in one sprawling line up...

After illustrating each individually, I finally compiled and finished the complete cast a few weeks ago, but am just now getting around to posting it, so here's the finished piece:
Featured are (left to right):

Lannisters: Tyrion, Jaime, King Robert (Baratheon), Cersei, Joffrey
Starks: Robb, Sansa, Eddard ("Ned"), Arya, Catelyn, Bran, Jon (Snow)
Targaryens: Khal (Drogo), Daenerys, Viserys (golden crown)

This was a lot of work, but also very fun, and it's great to see people's reactions at shows in person (and now online)!

When I started this, I thought it'd be cool to update it and create a new one for each season, but now that the ravishing season two is coming to a close... it's a rather daunting task to consider again...(and I'd also like to do one for Walking Dead)... so we'll see. :)

If you'd like to get some throne gaming art for your home, the prints are available in my STORE

TEE DESIGN: Tyrion final design

I posted the entire process for this, my latest t-shirt design, pIMP a while back, however, I went back and made some changes to the final design, and never shared those online. So, here is the new final design for my Tyrion/Game of Thrones/Peter Dinklage shirt...
I went and changed some of the shading, added a 5 O'clock shadow, and added a red outline that now ties into the text (among other things). Which I think helps make the whole thing stand out and come together more. You can pick these up now on Redbubble.com

Stumptown day one

Today was great fun at the local Stumptown Comics Fest, did a bunch of sketches (love having sketch covers again), so thought I'd share...

Here are 3 Night of the 80's Undead sketch covers; Arnold, Selleck, and Hulk Hogan!
And here's a sketch commission of Game of Thrones Tyrion Lannister (the imp).

Stumptown Comics Fest this weekend

Stumptown Comics Fest is this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, at the Oregon Convention center, and I'll be exhibiting at table A-14! Though there were some last minute snafus, I should have a new edition of the full pencil art only first issue of my new NIGHT OF THE 80'S UNDEAD comic!
I'll also have the just completed last section of my massive Game of Thrones season one fan art!!! (Here's a sneak peek)...
It's 3 parts to make the one sprawling image, featuring 14 plus characters from the show (that we all love - season 2 is awesome!)!!
It is also available from my art store!

I'll of course also have all the SRG books, all my sketchbooks (including the new over-sized compilation), and as always... much much more!

Stumptown has grown into a great indie comics event, and it's new home at the convention center makes for a great show.

Emerald City Comicon and Game of Thrones

Seattle's Emerald City Comicon has grown to be one of the best shows I do in recent years, and this year was even better. Thanks to everyone for making it a GREAT show! I wish they were all such well run, well placed, well trafficked, and strong selling shows!! I'm looking forward to next year.

I debuted my GAME OF THRONES fan art at the show, and with the fan frenzy around the show, coupled with the debut of the second season yesterday, completely sold out of my Stark family print by early Sunday. It's such a great show, that I really wanted to do some good fan art for it, so it's very nice to see people respond so well to it. Unfortunately, I also didn't finish the complete work, of the 3 parts - the Dothraki pair, the Stark family, and the Lannister family - I only had the Dothraki, and Starks... but will have the dreaded Lannister's completed soon.

In the meantime, I've added the first two parts to my website store, if anyone's looking to pick them up (either not attending the show, or missing a shot at the sold out Stark print), and you can pick those up HERE

Since I haven't posted any of the artwork to my blog yet, here's a look at Daenerys.
In total, between the 3 prints, the piece will feature 14 characters (and a bit more)! I'll be sure and post the finished complete work here when it's done, and add the Lannister's to the store then too.

Thanks again for the great show, but I think I can hear my DVR calling me to watch the season 2 debut!!!

TEE DESIGN: A game of previews finale

And now here's the final design (at least for now) of my Tyrion Lannister/Peter Dinklage/Game of Thrones tee design!
I decided to go with the text "PIMP", de-emphasizing the "P", to play on the words, as Dinklage's portrayal of the imp Tyrion in the show is rather pimp! And that in conjunction with just a head shot, as the character and actor's persona is so strong and recognizable (to fans).

You can pick one up now on RedBubble.com

TEE DESIGN: A game of previews 5

Okay, so last week I was showing and talking about the steps in creating my latest tee design, a fan art for Game of Thrones and the breakout character (of the show, I've not read the books), Tyrion Lannister, the impish sibling of the ruthless and powerful Lannister clan, played devilishly well by Peter Dinklage.

Last week I left off with the flat colors, and talked about how much work is done in the last stage, the shading. So here's a look at the image, now with shading and highlights...
I also made some adjustments to the line work, shortening his face/jaw, and increasing his grin. You'll also notice the color dots in the image, those are the colors used in the full design. There are six colors, as most t-shirt sites require as few as six colors in a design. However, this is really a five color design, as I didn't end up using the pink color, except for the pits of the eyes...

Speaking of eyes, keep your peeled shortly for the finished shirt design and info on where you can pick it up!

TEE DESIGN: A game of previews 4

All week I've been previewing my new Game of Thrones/Tyrion Lannister/Peter Dinklage t-shirt design, and today we get to see the last step before the finished artwork (sans any graphic elements), the flat colors.
On something like a t-shirts design, the flat colors are even further removed from the finished look, because most shirt printers require a limited number of colors used in a design, making the colors more graphic in nature (because of the limitation in choices). Also, with a design that consists almost entirely of a face like this one, there's going to be more design to the colors as well (to make the design as a whole interesting). So unlike flatting colors for sequential art for example, where most of the heavy lifting is done at the flatting stage, shading a design like this can take nearly as long as the rest of the process combined (especially since I'm working in Photoshop and not a more graphic based program).

So tune in tomorrow to see the image come to more life!

TEE DESIGN: A game of previews 3

Okay, so here's another look at my new Game of Thrones/Tyrion Lannister/Peter Dinklage t-shirt design! These are the finished lines, done in pencil (col erase, H, and 2B lead) from the reworked in Photoshop roughs, which I then printed out and redrew using my light box.
Tomorrow we'll get a look at the next step, flat colors!

TEE DESIGN: A game of previews 2...

I posted the first rough lines for this Tyrion Lannister fan art yesterday, and today I'm back to share the next stage of the design process.
Here we've taken the original line art, and instead of just redrawing it, to get it more in line with Peter's likeness, I've beat it up a while in Photoshop, to get things more in line with what I'm looking for (re-positioning features, tweaking lines, etc). Instead of just digitally cleaning this up though, I wanted to redraw it, so everything could be clean and polished. So that will be the next stage (tomorrow)...

TEE DESIGN: A game of previews...

I've got soooo many t-shirt ideas I'm planning and working up, but here's the first of which I'm close to finishing, so thought I'd share the stages of production all week!

Starting with the original rough lines.
It's a fan art, and a likeness, which is pretty off the mark here in this first stage, but not to worry, that's what all the various tools in the arsenal are for...
Here's the reference I was working with...
With Game of Thrones set to return shortly, and it being an amazing show that both I and the wife just absolutely love, I've been working on a couple fan art pieces for it. This is the first one, a t-shirt design of fan favorite character Tyrion Lannister, aka the imp. Peter Dinklage is all kinds of cool at bringing this character to life, so it's also a bit of a fan art for him as much as it is the show and the character.

Tune in tomorrow for the next stage...
